What is My Why
My journey with Georgetown began when I was a patient in 2004. I was suffering from undiagnosed mental health issues, which led to me self-medicating in unhealthy ways. When I started my treatment at CBH, I was amazed by the quality of care that I received, and it inspired me to give that same care to others. I like to say, “from a bed to a corner office.”
Now that I’m the Patient Advocate and Certified Peer Recovery Coach, I use my own experience and success to help our patients and their families make the best choices to keep them healthy and happy. When our patients run into issues, I am their voice and make sure that they are heard and their needs are met.
The best part of my job is getting to know our patients. One patient had been suffering from mental health issues for years, and we kept in touch after he finished his treatment. He now has a steady job and is about to buy his first house, and he sometimes comes back to CBH to share his story with our patients to inspire hope.
I love working at CBH because the staff always takes the time to understand patients and help them develop better coping skills. I know firsthand that mental health issues will not just go away on their own, so I am grateful to be on a team that helps patients stay healthy for years to come. I am in long-term recovery and I don’t let my past addiction or mental illness define me. I want our patients to know there is hope for a better tomorrow.
